George’s (Belated) Birthday Cake Recipe
By Maddy Tank · June 16, 2023 · 2 min read
At Maev, we think our dogs ought to be able to have their cake and eat it, too. (Just as long as all of the ingredients are canine-friendly and offer some pretty cool functional health benefits, of course.)
We conducted taste tests (threw a dog birthday party) at Maev HQ and the results are in — this recipe is a total hit.
Try it for yourself …
Ingredients You’ll Need:

For the Cake:
- 1 cup flour
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- ¼ cup peanut butter (make sure this is 100% xylitol-free)
- ½ cup unsweetened apple sauce
- ½ cup pure pumpkin puree
- 1 egg
For the Icing:
- 1 cup plain greek yogurt
- ½ cup xylitol-free peanut butter
For the Sprinkles:
- 1-2 Maev Supplement Bars, crushed
Instructions:

- First, you’ll want to preheat the oven to 350°F.
- In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients (flour and baking soda).
- In a separate mixing bowl, combine the wet ingredients (vegetable oil, peanut butter, applesauce, and pumpkin). Mix until combined and smooth.
- Next, add in 1 egg and mix.
- Pour your batter into an 8” round cake pan and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove your cake from the oven, and let it cool completely before icing (ideally on a wire cooling rack).
- While the cake is cooling, it’s time to make your icing.
- For the icing, mix greek yogurt and xylitol-free peanut butter until it is fully incorporated.
- When the cake is done cooling, add icing.
- To make the sprinkles, add 1-2 Maev Supplement Bars to a plastic bag and use your hands to crumble them into small pieces.
- Top your icing with sprinkles, and VOILA!
