Our 10 year old dog’s energy is up, coat is beautiful, breath has majorly improved, no more gas, and no more paw chewing/itching.

9 Reasons Why Your Dog Should Eat Ch-Ch-Cha Chia Seeds

By Maddy Tank · June 15, 2023 · 2 min read

9 Reasons Why Your Dog Should Eat Ch-Ch-Cha Chia Seeds

We humans like to put chia seeds on everything — we toss them into our pre and post-workout smoothies, sprinkle them onto our overnight oats, and even add them to our water. (And for good reason.) Chia seeds are a small, but mighty super nutrient.

Did you know they contain all 9 essential amino acids to support critical cellular processes in both humans and dogs?

For example, Lysine encourages calcium absorption (skeletal resilience), supports collagen formation (skin health), and bolsters the immune response. Another important essential amino acid, Histidine, supports the central nervous system, immune function, and tissue repair.

The 9 Essential Amino Acids include:

  • Histidine
  • Isoleucine
  • Leucine
  • Lysine
  • Methionine
  • Phenylalanine
  • Threonine
  • Tryptophan
  • Valine

These essential amino acids are key nutrients required for internal processes such as the synthesis of proteins, creatine, peptide hormones, and even some neurotransmitters. But because they cannot be made by the body, it is essential that we manually add the 9 essential amino acids into both our dog’s diet and our own in order to reap their benefits.

Meet the 9 Essential Amino Acids + Their Roles In the Body

Histidine

Supports the central nervous system, immune function, tissue repair, and hemoglobin synthesis (oxygenation).

Isoleucine

Promotes muscle recovery and tissue repair, and helps regulate blood sugar and energy levels.

Leucine

Promotes muscle recovery and tissue repair, and stimulates growth hormone and insulin production.

Lysine

Encourages calcium absorption (skeletal resilience), supports collagen formation (skin health), and bolsters the immune response.

Methionine

Supports digestion, nutrient absorption, and bioavailability of selenium and zinc, and aids in detoxification of lead and mercury.

Phenylalanine

Helps mitigate health concerns such as depression, hyperactivity, and arthritis.

Threonine

Supports collagen and elastin production, helps prevent fatty liver, supports bone and enamel strength, and helps maintain the protective mucosal layer in the gut (barrier integrity).

Tryptophan

Helps regulate mood, sleep, appetite, and memory (recall during training).

Valine

Supports the central nervous system, immunity, cognitive function, metabolism, tissue repair, and energy levels.
