Meet Maev’s April Dog of the Month

This may come as a surprise, but there’s nothing we love more than celebrating dogs. So, each month we’re spotlighting a dog from our community. For the month of March, we’d like you to meet Plum!

Tell us about your dog’s origin story (how they chose you, how you chose them, or how they got their name).

In 2019, when I began looking for a puppy, I discovered that whippets are surprisingly uncommon in the US, but eventually came across a breeder I liked in Arkansas. As a writer and astrologer, I subscribe to timing and fate, but also to the paradox of choice. It felt like fate when I learned that my astrological moon line runs through Arkansas — close to where Plum was born. Plum is my little cosmic companion sent to keep me company. She teaches me to love and care for myself through loving her. She’s the “Plum pudding” of my life. She epitomizes the ethereal, eternal sweetness reminiscent of higher love.

Squirrels, bunnies, or birds?

Ooof! Squirrels because we see them more often! But bunnies on hikes. And birds — well, there was this beautiful observation moment where P was suspended in motion, intently watching a bird in a tree like the sighthound she was bred to be!

If you could ask your dog one question and have them answer, what would it be?

I would ask her, “What can I do to make you feel more loved?”

What is your dog’s beige flag?

Loud noises.

If you could pick any actor to play your dog in a movie, who would it be?

Emma Stone — she’s so quirky and random!

What table scrap would your dog trade you for?

Honestly, she goes bonkers for Maev. She’s never (ever) shown this much interest in other foods.

If your dog had a job, what would it be?

A travel blogger!

What is your dog’s name for you?

Mummykins.

When your dog is dreaming, what’s it about?

Running and playing in open fields of lush grass.

If your dog had a dating profile, what would be their most attractive quality?

Her attentiveness and her cuddles.

If your dog slid into our DM’s, what would they say?

“Can we pwease have a playdate?”

Is there anything else we should know about your dog? (think funny anecdotes, defining characteristics, etc.)

Whenever Plum’s excited, she runs to her bowl, picks up any remnants of food, and neurotically eats it. She also stress eats when the scary vacuum is on. (I added this to a dating profile once and got the most hilarious responses!)
